Online Schools – Today’s Virtual Campus

In addition to providing means to attaining online certificates, degrees and diplomas, online schools are more than mere distance learning portals; today, they are virtual campuses that offer multitudes of disciplines from which to choose – and that’s not all: In recent news [1], the state of Washington “built” two (2) of their newest online schools and were quite surprised by the results. When their “virtual doors” are scheduled to open fall of 2006, educational leaders never quite anticipated the overwhelming response they would receive – in this case, student enrollment was just above 650 in one of the online schools; and was only expected to gain 300 at best. Additionally, in the same online school; overall interest that has been expressed is nearly double that number!

Online schools are quickly becoming a mainstay in quality home-education. Homebound students who are being taught away from public school campuses, can now couple their home-schooling with comprehensive online courses that are especially designed so that students may obtain their electronic high school diploma without stepping foot into a public classroom.
